26 October 2023, Thursday

A press conference dedicated to the All-Russian campaign "Water of Russia" of the national project "Ecology" and the role of the public in the fight against pollution of reservoirs was held today in Moscow at the Komsomolskaya Pravda press center. The results of one of the most important and relevant environmental projects of our country were discussed by representatives of the regions where the largest events took place, as well as the leaders of the rating of last year's campaign.

The Republic of Tatarstan has been the winner of this All-Russian coastal strip cleaning competition for two years in a row, and today Deputy Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan Egor Tarnavsky took part in a press conference via videoconference. As Ilya Razbash, director of the Center for the Development of the Water Management Complex of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, noted at the very beginning of the meeting, the main goal of the campaign is not just to clear the shores of garbage, but to make sure that it does not appear there anymore.

"We all know how important it is to keep our reservoirs clean and free from pollution. I am sure that today we will be able to discuss many aspects, share experience and knowledge, understand how the holding of a key event in the region affects the "fighting spirit and mood" of volunteers, as well as develop new strategies and approaches to combat water pollution," the speaker said. In videoconference the regions shared their results, told about key events and clean-up days that took place in all corners of the country. Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Chelyabinsk, Murmansk, Buryatia – "Water of Russia" has already gathered almost 9.5 million Russians on the banks of the largest rivers and reservoirs. Passing the floor to Tatarstan, Ilya Razbash stressed that the Republic is still the leader in eco-education in the country, because every third Tatarstan citizen goes to clean-ups and eco-campaigns.  In response Egor Tarnavsky said that every year about 300 thousand residents of the republic participate in shore cleaning campaigns and this is not accidental, because Tatarstan is one of the most water-rich regions and it is located in the heart of the Volga River. "Our environmental campaigns gather more and more Tatarstan citizens and we hold them more than once a year, but throughout the year, starting with clean-ups during the sanitary two-month period and ending in late autumn.   All districts of the republic take an active part, our permanent assistants are, of course, our friends–divers of the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, who this year not only cleaned the bottom of reservoirs, but also successfully coped with the blockages on the Kazanka River within the framework of the Ministry of Ecology project "Free Current". The Deputy Minister of Ecology stressed that since 2018, the young naturalists movement has been actively reviving in the Republic and now there are more than 2,000 young naturalists in Tatarstan, who have become real helpers in cleaning the shores. Let us recall that in 2022, the President of the Russian Federation gave instructions to resume the movement of young naturalists throughout the country. Summing up the results of the republican environmental events Egor Tarnavsky thanked Rosvodresursy and the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia for their support and noted that ecology is what unites everyone!
