Exactly 10 years ago, on September 4, the first Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Anatoly Ivanovich Shchepovskikh passed away. Veterans of the Ministry of Ecology, employees of the department and Deputy Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan Olga Manidicheva today honored his memory with a funeral rally at the cemetery of the Oryol rural settlement in Laishevsky district, where the outstanding ecologist was buried. Anatoly Ivanovich Shchepovskikh began his career as an ordinary rural mathematics teacher, after which he served in the ranks of the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Petrochemical and Gas Industry. In 1993, he became the first Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. Under the leadership of the Shchepovskikh, the creation of a unified system for protecting the nature of Tatarstan began.
"During the reign of Anatoly Ivanovich Shchepovskikh, a system with clear priorities and an understanding of growth points was created. His work is a cause of pride for any resident and leader of the republic. This includes the creation of the Red Book of Tatarstan, the Green Book of Tatarstan, the publication of the State Register of Specially Protected Natural Territories. Also, much attention was paid to field work: operations "Spawning", "Hunting", "Clean Air" were carried out annually. As a token of memory and gratitude, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan has established a special departmental award "Medal named after A. I. Shchepovskikh", which is awarded for special merits in environmental protection, and since 2015 the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Industrial Ecology and Safety" has been named after Anatoly Ivanovich Shchepovskikh," said Olga Manidicheva, Deputy Minister of Ecology.
