In early June, employees of the Ministry of Ecology and ornithologists brought 10 chicks of the red Book Saker falcon to the village of Tenishevo, Kamsko-Ustinsky district. They were placed in artificial hake nests. All summer, birdwatchers watched the chicks, and volunteers made sure that the Saker calves ate well.
And here's the result: all the chicks took their first flight and are now independently getting their own food. They come to the nests extremely rarely, preferring to hunt like real predators. During our visit, we also managed to communicate with ornithologist Ivan Chaplashkin. He arrived with his new friend, a baby falcon named Arkhyz.
"We have already released the chicks into the wild, our task now is to study their behavior. Watch how they will develop, hunt in nature. We don't know if the sakers will fly away from Tatarstan in the fall to winter in warmer regions. If they fly away, then most likely they will return here again before nesting, since they consider the place where they were released into the wild to be their native place. If these birds have enough here, they can stay, since the saker falcon is adapted to the cold," the ornithologist said.
And we remind you that the project of the Ministry of Ecology, implemented with a grant from Sibur, participates in the voting for the national award "Crystal Compass" as the best project in the nomination "Public Recognition". You can support the Tatarstan initiative on the website of the award https://rus-compass.ru / until July 31.
