Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov took part in the parliamentary hearings of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on the topic: "Topical issues of conservation and restoration of water bodies and their ecosystems."

The hearings were held under the leadership of Dmitry Kobylkin, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

Alexander Shadrikov made a report at the parliamentary hearings of the profile Committee of the State Duma on the work within the framework of the national project "Ecology" on the improvement of the Volga.

He told what events are being implemented in Tatarstan within the framework of the federal project "Improving the Volga".

"The main goal of the project is to improve the ecological condition of the main waterway of the country by reducing the volume of contaminated wastewater by three times. For this purpose, the construction and reconstruction of 13 treatment facilities and the elimination of 2 objects of accumulated environmental damage are planned on the territory of our Republic. Thus, in 2019-2021, 12 wastewater treatment plants in 10 municipalities have already been built and reconstructed in Tatarstan. In 2021, work began on the reconstruction of the largest sewage treatment plants in Tatarstan – the sewage treatment plants of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "Vodokanal" of Kazan. They are among the top 200 major pollutants of the Volga River. After the reconstruction, the structures will be able to additionally receive wastewater from more than 250 thousand residents of the city," the head of the Tatarstan department reported.

The Minister told at what stage the work is now on the elimination of accumulated damage objects – these are the silt fields of BOSK Kazan and inactive pipelines of the Lake oil field. Also in his speech, Alexander Shadrikov touched upon the topic of improving another major river of Tatarstan - the Kama.

"The national project "Ecology" is being completed next year, but there are still many tasks that need to be solved. The President instructed to prepare a unified federal project on environmental improvement of water bodies, taking into account regional peculiarities. Its launch is scheduled for 2025, the events will cover most of the country and improve the quality of life of at least 80 million people," said Dmitry Kobylkin, Chairman of the Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

Let us recall that in his address to the Federal Assembly in 2023, the President of Russia highlighted the improvement of unique water bodies, including Baikal and Volga, among the priorities of the implementation of environmental policy, and also drew the attention of all levels of government to the need in the medium term to extend this work to such rivers as the Don, Kama, Irtysh, Ural, Terek, Volkhov and Neva, as well as the middle and small rivers of Russia and Lake Ilmen.
