The All-Russian Open Field Olympiad of Young Geologists is held once every two years in various constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Earlier the Olympiad was hosted by Miass in Chelyabinsk region, the International Children’s Center “Artek”, Nizhniy Novgorod, Leningrad region, Ufa, Krasnoyarsk, and Taganrog. Two years ago, in Tomsk, the Colors of the Olympiad were handed to Kazan. In its turn, Kazan passed the Colors to Tyumen, where the X All-Russian Open Field Olympiad of Young Geologists will be held in 2015.

According to the Head of the Subsurface Management Department for the Republic of Tatarstan Ravil Mutygullin, teams from Tatarstan have performed very well during the Olympiad. Preparation for the Olympiad hosted in Kazan this year started in 2011. Special attention was paid to young geologists. School faculties were created under the auspices of Kazan (Volga region) Federal University and Almetyevsk State Oil Institute, whereto 30 talented children came to study. During preparation for the Olympiad they went to the recreation camp in Karabash, as well as to the competitions in Perm and Moscow. Later two teams were created to represent the Republic of Tatarstan at the All-Russian Open Field Olympiad: “Devon” (the so-called Almetyevsk bush) consisting of children from Bugulma, Aznakaevo, and Almetyevsk regions, and “Selenit” (Kazan bush) consisting of young geologists from Kazan and Tetyushi district.

Following the results of the Olympiad, the “Devon” team was rated the 7th, while the “Selenit” team took the 9th place. “I believe that the guys took well-deserved places as compared to the previous Olympiads”, acknowledged Ravil Mutygullin. He reminded that during the Olympiad in Tomsk 2 years ago the team from Tatarstan managed to take only the third place from the end.
