Topical issues of the development of the water management complex of the Lower Volga were discussed in Astrakhan at a meeting of the Basin Council

In Astrakhan, within the framework of the 29th meeting of the Basin Council of the Lower Volga Basin District, topical issues in the field of water relations and the development of the water management complex of the Lower Volga were discussed. The Council unites eight regions of the country along the lower Volga River from the Republic of Tatarstan to the Astrakhan region.

Denis Afanasyev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Astrakhan Region, addressed the participants of the meeting with a welcoming speech. He noted the importance of water management measures for all regions of the Lower Volga.

Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov made a report on the work that is underway in the Republic of Tatarstan to preserve and improve the Volga, including within the framework of the national project "Ecology".

So, in 2023, in Tatarstan, shore protection works will be completed near the village of Kamskoye Estuary and major repairs will continue at 14 hydraulic structures. "In 2023, thanks to the support of the Lower Volga Basin Water Management of the Federal Agency for Water Resources under the state program of the Russian Federation "Reproduction and Use of Natural Resources", coastal protection works of the Kuibyshev reservoir near the village of Kamskoye Estuary are being completed in Tatarstan. In addition, work is planned to clear the Bag River in the village of Ivanovskoye, Zelenodolsk district, and ecological rehabilitation of the lower pond in the village of Derzhavino, Laishevsky district," he said.

Alexander Shadrikov added that work is underway in the region to determine the boundaries of water protection zones and coastal protective strips, as well as to install information signs. For 2024-2026, Tatarstan has prepared budget applications for 33 events.

The participants of the Basin Council formed proposals for amendments to federal legislation, appeals to universities on educational programs in the field of safe operation of hydraulic structures, as well as on the program of industrial environmental control. The next meeting of the Basin Council will be held in September in Samara.
