Oleg Sinyashin, head of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told about the invisible environmental problem of the world scale – microplastics – at the final board of the Ministry.
"Microplastics are tiny particles that are usually up to 5 millimeters in size and are almost invisible. It is divided into two types and is formed during the decay of polymer products under the influence of light, heat, water, is easily carried by the wind and passes filtration systems", - the speaker noted.
"Such plastic is found in the soil, in the water and in the air. Microplastics have a negative impact on flora and fauna, and subsequently on human food sources. Plastic particles are also found in human blood, accumulating in the body, they can harm the reproductive system, lead to tissue inflammation, a drop in immunity and developmental delay in children," Oleg Sinyashin said.
In this regard, the director of the FRC of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences proposed to hold a workshop to develop appropriate regulations for the detection and identification of microplastics in the environment, with the participation of leading scientists, production workers, and representatives of Rosprirodnadzor, other interested persons and organizations.
"One way or another, environmental problems concern each of us living on Earth. After all, the Earth is our common home," Oleg Sinyashin finished his report.
