Environmentalists have revealed a short-term excess of the MPC in air samples of the Nizhnekamsk industrial zone taken at the time of the fire in the rubber production

14 December 2022, Wednesday

Atmospheric air samples were taken at 4 different points – both in the residential area and on the border of the sanitary protection zone of the enterprise.

According to the results of the analyses, the excess was recorded at the following points:

– in the residential area of the locality of Prosti, for acetaldehyde at 1.6 MPC, propionic aldehyde at 2.2 MPC, which, according to formal criteria, belongs to the category of insignificant substances for these substances belonging to the class of low and medium toxicity

– on the border of the sanitary protection zone on the leeward side near the settlement of Prosti (highway towards the gardeners' non-commercial partnership) by propionic aldehyde at 2.6 MPC, methyl acetate at 2.1 MPC, acetaldehyde at 45 MPC, acrolein at 42 MPC. The two indicators for which the excess was detected – methyl acetate and acrolein are not used and are not obtained in the results of Nizhnekamskneftekhim's activities. Additional analysis of the causes of the substances is required.

To control air quality, on December 13, specialists of the Zakamsky TA of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan took air at similar points adjacent to the Nizhnekamsk industrial zone. According to the results, there were no exceedances of the MPC for any of the controlled substances.

The results of both analyses were transferred to the territorial department of Rosprirodnadzor of Nizhnekamsk.
