This year, Moscow, Tatarstan, Tyumen, Belgorod Regions and St. Petersburg entered the top 5 regions according to ESG criteria.
45 indicators were used for the assessment, experts assessed the quality of environmental, social and management policies. The regions were divided into five groups according to the level of compliance with ESG criteria from "beginner" to "advanced" and rated from 0 to 1 point.
The highest "advanced" level is assigned to 19 regions. The rating was headed by Moscow (0.781 points), which has significant economic resources and conducts large-scale work in the field of sustainable development both at the international and national levels. The second was Tatarstan (0.769 points), which is distinguished by a particularly developed ecological direction. The top 5 also included Tyumen (0.723) and Belgorod regions (0.702) and St. Petersburg (0.683).
It is worth noting that the Republic of Tatarstan took the 1st place in terms of the environmental indicator, which affects three important aspects of the integration of the ESG agenda into the region's activities: environmental impact, climate change and resource use.
"This is not accidental. The systematic, consolidated work of the government, science, business and society has yielded its result. In recent years, the gross regional product in Tatarstan in comparable prices has increased 2.6 times, while the volume of emissions has decreased by 21.4%," says Deputy Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan Olga Manidicheva. She notes that the national project "Ecology" also gave an impetus. A large number of key measures are being implemented in Tatarstan that affect environmental quality indicators.
