The Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and the Interregional Public Fund of Charitable Effortscarry out the X Contest of the National Environmental Award “EcoWorld” of 2012-13.

The National Environmental Award “EcoWorld” is a public award for outstanding achievements in environmental protection and ecological safety as well as in other environmentalactivities aimed at a sustainable development of Russia in the XXI century. Toraise public awarenessabout sustainable development and everyindividual’s role in global survival is the main objective of the Award with consolidation and activization of all population groups for the solution of problems of environmental protection and ecological safety being its primary task.

Within the framework of the main contest the Board of Founders of the Award carries out two special-purpose contests: a contest in the sphere of theory and practice of building construction and architecture “Innovations in engineering design and investment and buildingactivities for providing Russians with available and environmentally safe housing – “EcoDom”; a contest“Sustainable agricultural sector for production of available products of environmentally reasonable food” –“AgropromEco”, whose primary task consists in assistance in implementation of the priority national project “Development of Agricultural Sector”.

The special-purpose contests“EcoDom” and “AgropromEco” are carried out within the framework of five nominations of the National Environmental Award “EcoWorld”:

1. Environmental Policy

Initiation and adoption of new efficient federal and regional laws and executive orders, decrees of the President of Russia, resolutions of the Government of the Russian Federation and local administrative bodies directed to ecological safety ensuring, environmental education development, ecological science and environmentally friendly technology as well as to the solution of such issues as “Ecology and Health” and “Biodiversity Preservation and Landscape Rehabilitation”.

“EcoDom” Contest: environmentally friendly policy-making in the sphere of a construction and architectural complex of regions and settlements, elaboration of financial and investment instruments providing availability of the modern housing for the population.

“AgropromEco” Contest: generation of federal and regional strategy of development of mass production of available and environmentally reasonable agricultural products, improvement of legislative base and administrative decisions for decrease in negative impact of agrarian and industrial complex on health of the population and environment.

2. Environmental Education

Publication of textbooks and manuals, creation of art works (literature, painting, architecture, music, theater, and cinema) as well as implementation of projects, programs and campaigns aimed at an increase in level of environmental education and culture of the population, in particular, of the youth and representatives of legislative and executive power.

“EcoDom” Contest: analysis of historical and modern experience, search for approaches and solutions for the most harmonious integration of buildings and constructions into the environment. Identification of reference examples of interaction of construction elements with their natural environment is one of the most important ecological and cultural aspects of this activity.

“AgropromEco” Contest: Promotion of successful agricultural experience both in historical perspective and with the use of achievements of scientific and technological progress. Training and retraining of specialists for sustainable agricultural sector.

3. Ecological science and technologies

Implementation of scientific projects aimed at further understanding of processes going on in the environment as a result of human activity, as well as the impact of these processes on human health and biodiversity of ecosystems. Creation of eco-friendly technologies that considerably decrease the impact of antropogenic factors on man and biota, as well as those that solve the problem of environmental stresses.

“EcoDom” Contest: development and implementation of eco-friendly construction materials and technologies, studying of interactions in the human-facility-environment system (including flora and fauna), development of eco-friendly life support system and recycling of waste products.
“AgropromEco” Contest: development and implementation of scientific approaches and new technologies aimed at mass production of available products of environmentally sound food, as well as energy conservation in the course of their production, transportation, storage and sale.

4. Ecology and health

Implementation of projects, programs and campaigns, aimed at practical problem solving determined by deterioration of environmental quality (air, soil, water bodies, potable water, and foodstuffs) and attendant health impairment of the population.

“EcoDom” Contest: development of life support systems based on alternative energy sources (sun, wind, etc.) and eco-friendly materials. Invention of new equipment providing for minimization of physical, chemical, and biological stresses, and aimed at creation of favorable conditions in residential and office premises.

“AgropromEco” Contest: justification and practical use of individual and mass complexes of eco-friendly products and drinks. Advocacy of balance between healthy lifestyle and eco-friendly nutrition. Minimization of environment-related body stresses using natural remedies for disease prevention purposes.

5. Biodiversity preservation and landscape rehabilitation

Implementation of projects, programs and campaigns, aimed at practical improvement of the situation related to biodiversity in Russian regions (conservation and recovery of rare biological species in water and terrestrial ecosystems), as well as rehabilitation of industrial, energetic, transportation, agricultural, and utility landscapes.

“EcoDom” Contest: implementation of complex projects of development and reconstruction of agricultural and urban settlements, as well as industrial, energetic, transportation, agricultural, and utility facilities. Creation of isolate civil, agricultural and industrial buildings combining harmony and intelligent simplicity of suggested solutions.

“AgropromEco” Contest: development and implementation of new eco-friendly farming technologies. Development and implementation of programs related to formation of ecologically stable cultivated landscapes.

Competition entries with regard to the “EcoWorld” Award contest shall be accepted electronically on the website of the Global Educational Project “EcoWorld” ( http://www.ecoworld.ru) until August 31.

Both individuals and legal persons can apply using the corresponding application forms, which have been elaborated in two versions. The application is presented in the form of tables, where one can provide brief information on the applicant and project / program / campaign announced in the framework of the “EcoWorld” Award.
