Tatarstan ecologists help Kazan residents to become real "Citizen scientists"

On the eve of the evening, a master class "Exploring the air in the city and at Kazanka" was held on the football fields near the Kazan extreme park "Uram". As part of the ninth lesson "Citizen-scientist", Kazan residents were able to ask topical questions to experts about the air quality in the city, about monitoring atmospheric pollution and to ask what measures have been taken to improve the state of the environment. Aliya Garayeva, Head of the Atmospheric Air Protection Department, spoke on behalf of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, she spoke about changes in the quality of atmospheric air over the past 30 years. According to her, emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere decreased by 582 thousand tons. In addition, she explained in detail the specifics of the department's work, told about air protection measures and environmental actions carried out by the Ministry. And Artur Shakirzyanov, Deputy Director of the NGO Geocenter of the Republic of Tatarstan, spoke about the territorial monitoring system, measures to respond to complaints from residents and the targeted use of "green" funds. In addition, activists of the Breathe Kazan project held a master class and assessed the air quality in the city. Participants were shown and explained how to use modern sensors and gas analyzers to analyze air quality.
