13 July 2022, Wednesday

The interim results of the pilot project to improve the ecological condition of rivers and reservoirs were shared with the journalists today at a press conference at the Tatmedia Press and Mass Communications Agency. The speakers were Deputy Chairman of the RGS in the Republic of Tatarstan Andrey Agarkov, First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Airat Shigapov and Head of the Department of Protection of Water Bodies of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Vyacheslav Dolgov.

The Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan and the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society in Tatarstan are engaged in the implementation of the project. As noted by the first Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan – the Chief State Inspector of the Republic of Tatarstan in the field of environmental protection, Airat Shigapov, at the first stage, the main task was to obtain up-to-date information on the hydrochemical and morphological composition of water in the river, for this purpose water samples were taken. The first object of the study was the Kazanka River.

"In total, 15 monitoring points were identified at the first stage, including three of them where samples were taken daily during the snowmelt period for 30 days. Two main pollutants that are characteristic of agricultural enterprises have been identified. They are part of fertilizers, these are nitrites and phosphates," the speaker noted.

During the first stage of the Kazanka research project, more than 600 potential contamination points were identified. These are, for example, the placement of an agricultural enterprise at the water's edge, the facts of waste disposal and coastal erosion.

"As a result, measures will be developed to reduce these erosions in order to preserve the natural channel and reduce the negative impact," the first deputy minister told reporters. Also, all treatment facilities on the river and its tributaries were taken under special control.

We will tell you more about the pilot project to improve the ecological state of Kazanka today at 19:45 on "Ether" TV channel in "Clean Tatarstan" program.
