Dozens of Kazan residents have already tried themselves as a citizen-scientist

8 July 2022, Friday

Ecological and educational meetings within the framework of the new project "Citizen-scientist" have started in Kazan. At the first of them, which took place the night before next to the GIMS site, First Deputy Minister of Ecology Airat Shigapov acted as a speaker. He thanked everyone who came to talk and share their opinions and noted: "Today a lot of attention is paid to environmental education. The formats that the city comes up with are really amazing. If eco-education is mainly carried out for children, schoolchildren, then today's event shows that all age groups can take part in the further development of the Kazanka River."

Already at the first meeting, the participants were asked to come up with their own environmental project. The ideas were very different – these were children's eco-camps, eco-swimming pools, an ecological museum of the river, a virtual map and others.

Invited experts, including Daria Tolovenkova, Deputy Chief Architect of Kazan, the Institute of City Development, Nail Zinnatullina, curator of urban environment development programs in Tatarstan, the Foundation "Institute of Urban Development of the Republic of Tatarstan" told which projects are already in the works, and which will take note to implement in the future.

The project was organized by the Kazanka Development Strategy team together with the Executive Committee of the City of Kazan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, the regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Tatarstan, Kazan Federal University and the platform "Another Matter".
