30 June 2022, Thursday

According to the received information about the storage of bulky garbage in the hole formed at the site of the mine near the village of Pechishchi in the Verkhneuslonsky district, inspectors of the Central Territorial Administration of the Ministries of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan carried out a visit to establish the fact of violation of environmental legislation.

During the visit, the fact of the violation was confirmed. Large-sized garbage was found in the karst hole. At the request of the Ministry's inspectors, the Administration of the Verkhneuslonsky district must remove and dispose of the accumulated bulky garbage by July 4 and restrict the access of vehicles to the hole.

For reference:

For several centuries and until the 80s of the twentieth century, industrial extraction of lime and lime stone was carried out on the right bank of the Volga near the settlement of Pechishchi. As a result of mining, tunnels with a length of several tens of kilometers were formed. In the last 30 years, as a result of the collapse of the tunnels, the ground subsidence occurs, including sinkholes.

Taking into account the proximity of the Pechishchinsky geological section and the popularity of these places among vacationers, municipal authorities have repeatedly taken actions to ensure the safety of people – fencing the failure site, installing information signs.
