The progress of work within the framework of the federal project "Conservation of unique water bodies" of the national project "Ecology" on the Melekeska River was assessed today by Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Egor Tarnavsky. Now the active stage of cleaning the riverbed, which was delayed due to spawning, has started here.

Specialists of Sredvolgavodkhoz are preparing a site for silt storage and are clearing the shore of reeds, trees and shrubs. In a few days, the pumping of silt into geotubes will begin – special 50-meter bags that will be placed in rows on the site. As Yegor Tarnavsky noted, work on the facility began as soon as spawning had ended, and this is only the first stage of work that is being implemented by the institution subordinate to the Federal Agency for Water Resources – the branch of the Sredvolgavodkhoz of the Centerregionvodkhoz Federal State Budgetary Institution. According to the deputy director of the Sredvolgavodkhoz branch, Renat Khasanov, now the site is being prepared for geotubes, and at the end of the week they will start lifting silt from the bottom. Special equipment is working – these are two dredgers and a crushing plant for the disposal of overgrown shrubs. As part of the first stage of work, a section of the river with a length of 1.5 kilometers will be cleared. The total cost for this stage of the events is 163 million rubles.

"It is planned to raise almost 60 thousand cubic meters of bottom sediments from an area of 15 hectares," explained the head of the Executive Committee of Naberezhnye Chelny Farid Salakhov.  – Also, the coast will be cleared of five thousand cubic meters of vegetation – these are reeds, shrubs, trees of low-value species, etc."  After purification, the hydrological properties of the river will improve, water flow will increase, there will be no stagnant phenomena that negatively affect the ecosystem of the reservoir.

"The project has been fully prepared for the second stage of work on a section of 3.3 kilometers upstream to the bell bridge. The site is under the jurisdiction of the municipality, it has passed state expertise, the amount of the declared financing is 310 million rubles, the object has been sent to the Federal Agency for Water Resources, it has been approved from the point of view of planned financing," the deputy minister told about further plans for clearing Melekeski.

"This is a long-awaited event for residents of Naberezhnye Chelny, because the territory adjacent to the river is used by the local population for recreational purposes - it is a place of active recreation. Clearing a section of the Melekeski River will improve water quality and improve living conditions for 532.07 thousand residents of Naberezhnye Chelny," said Yegor Tarnavsky.
