The BTP were put into operation back in 1966. The sewage treatment plants receive both household wastewater from Nizhnekamsk and industrial wastewater from the production site.
81% of the effluents entering the BTP are the effluents of more than 60 enterprises located on an industrial site.
The expansion of the BTP continued until the mid-80s and as a result, their capacity increased from 56 thousand cubic meters per day to 213 thousand.
However, since then Nizhnekamsk has grown significantly and the load has multiplied many times due to the growth in the number of residents of the town, its infrastructure and industrial enterprises. Taking into account the current situation, the management of Nizhnekamskneftekhim decided to start a large-scale reconstruction of treatment facilities. Its goal was to replace outdated industrial buildings and structures, equipment, as well as to introduce modern wastewater treatment technology, with the construction of new facilities, which will ultimately significantly improve the environmental situation in the Nizhnekamsk municipal district.
The first stage was carried out in 2016. The complex was equipped with the most modern equipment.
In 2018, the second stage of the BTP reconstruction began.
As part of the second stage, new buildings and structures were reconstructed and built at the industrial wastewater treatment plant, including the latest gas purification plants – biofilters. They are blockboxes that are populated with special types of bacteria. It is these microorganisms that neutralize unpleasant odors. This technology is one of the best in Europe.
After a large-scale reconstruction, the entire process of wastewater treatment takes place in conditions of complete tightness and ensures the reliability of the wastewater transportation system to the BTP.
Another important step to improve the reliability of the work done was the construction of a new off-site collector with a length of about 15 km, which significantly increased the throughput and increased the reliability of wastewater transportation.
All this has made it possible to significantly reduce the indicators of sewage pollution, and this primarily ensures comfortable living for city residents, since it eliminates the ingress of unpleasant odors into the atmosphere, as well as pollutants into water and soil. Representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences asked about the throughput capacity of the modernized BTP, how much the reconstruction allowed to reduce the amount of pollutants in the effluents and how their quality is monitored.
Let us remind, that an expanded meeting of the members of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on global environmental problems and the interdepartmental working group on ensuring environmental safety in the development of the Nizhnekamsk industrial hub is taking place in Nizhnekamsk.
