As the Deputy Minister of Ecology noted at the very beginning of her speech, the achievement of carbon neutrality is now an international trend. The Russian Federation has already joined this trend, and the Republic of Tatarstan cannot stay away either. "One of the challenges today is warming and climate change. In order to minimize these risks from climate change, it is necessary to think already today that it is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the industrial sector, and at the same time increase the absorption capacity of CO2 by all known methods and measures. Decarbonization is the search for solutions that will allow us to carry out activities in these two main areas. The goal of the program being created in the republic is to achieve carbon neutrality" - Olga Manidicheva elaborated on the republican program to achieve carbon neutrality. A list of eight main directions has been formed. These are the development of hydrogen energy, the modernization of the existing energy complex and the development of renewable energy, decarbonization in the oil production and refining industry, the transition to electric transport. The program provides for an increase in the absorption of greenhouse gases, measures to monitor emissions. The program should be finalized by the end of 2022. An interdepartmental working group has been established at the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, which includes representatives of the scientific community, leading industrial enterprises, ministries and departments. The program will run until 2050. Its main goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030. By 2050, the republic should reach full carbon neutrality.
