Proposals on the modes of operation of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs were discussed today at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan at the Interdepartmental Commission on the preparation of proposals on the modes of operation of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs. In addition to the ministries and departments of the Republic, the Ministers of Ecology of the Chuvash Republic, the Republic of Mari El, Ulyanovsk and Samara regions took part in the videoconference meeting.

Airat Mardikhanov, a representative of JSC Tatenergo, spoke about the hydrological and water management situation at the Volga-Kama Cascade and the recommended operating modes of the Kuibyshev reservoir. He also spoke about the new features of the Gidrokaskad program. It is the program that helps the specialists of the Ministry of Ecology to conduct daily monitoring of the modes of operation of reservoirs.

"We all know that the spring flood period is the most difficult period in terms of regulating the modes of operation of the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade. Our main task is to ensure that the spring flood passes safely, without emergencies (flooding and inundation), and to maintain a sufficiently high level of the Kuibyshev reservoir," stressed Minister of Ecology Alexander Shadrikov. All participants of the meeting agreed and supported the head of the department.

Proposals on the operation of reservoirs will be announced at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group, where the operating modes of the Volga-Kama cascade will be established for the period of special access to the Lower Volga. The meeting will be held on April 12.
