Today, the Ministry held a regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on Climate Policy and Decarbonization of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The meeting was chaired by Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Renat Galiev and Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Olga Manidicheva. At the meeting, the representative of the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Airat Sabirov, spoke about the results of the work carried out to assess the carbon-depositing function of the forests of the republic. The report is based on studies of woody vegetation as a natural "reservoir" for carbon dioxide deposition obtained on the basis of the Arsky Forestry.
As a suggestion, the speaker expressed the opinion on the need to create a database of forests of the republic based on GIS in order to obtain a digital soil map of forests. The key-note of the meeting is the need to increase the forest cover of the territory of the republic to the level of 25%.
For reference:
Conservation and cultivation of forests began to be considered as a way of binding (depositing) atmospheric carbon, allowing at least partially to balance the powerful emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when burning natural fuels.
