The torch of the Universiade in Ulyanovsk

The Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Artem Sidorov took part in celebrations regarding Torch Relay in Ulyanovsk. “The torch of the Universiade has already been on five continents of our planet, and now it travels around Russia. I’m glad that today the heart of the Volga Region — Ulyanovsk — meets the main symbol of the Universiade, noted Artem Sidorov. Ulyanovsk is one of the most dynamically developing cities of the country. The evidence to that is a great amount of sports facilities, as well as higher educational establishments and schools; youth policy is being developed here, it is becoming popular to do sports. I wish victory to the citizens of Ulyanovsk who will participate in the Universiade as part of the national team of Russia!”

On June 11, the torch of the XXVII World Summer Universiade has arrived in the next city on the torch relay route in Russia, i.e. Ulyanovsk. Here, the symbol of the Universiade was kindly met with bread and salt, as well as Tatar national dish “Chaku-chaku” to a rousing drum rhythm.

Ulyanovsk became the 24th city hosting the Torch Relay during the Universiade in Russia. The best students of the region, members of the government, famous sportsmen including merited sports master for Greco-Roman wrestling, the champion of the Deaflympics, the champion of Russia Evgeniy Golovanov, the World Champion, the world cup winner for kickboxing Andrey Khovrin, volunteers, representatives of youth public organizations as well as partners of the Universiade carried the fire along the streets of the capital of Ulyanovsk Region. Merited worker in the field of physical culture and sports of the Russian Federation, merited coach of the Tadjik SSR, the president of the Student League for table tennis of Russia, Vladimir Buyanov got the honorary right to start the relay. All in all, 50 torchbearers in Ulyanovsk became guides of the main symbol of the World Universiade. Flame lighting was the high point of the relay.
