To prevent starvation of fish and saturate the reservoir with oxygen - today, employees of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with representatives of the Srednevolzhsky TA Rosrybolovstvo, the Kazan Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office and specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Tatarstan, went on ice with such a mission. This is a traditional campaign. Every year ecologists together with other environmental authorities carry out aeration of reservoirs of the Republic. In winter, when the oxygen level in the water drops due to the ice cover, fish need the help of people like air. "For fish, it is necessary to cut holes and make holes to give them the opportunity to breathe. Works on aeration of reservoirs, especially where there is no running water, begin when the ice thickness is more than 10 centimeters," says Vyacheslav Dolgov, head of the Department for the Protection of Water Bodies of the Ministry. And the employees of the Srednevolzhsky TA Rosrybolovstvo note that the more dissolved oxygen in the water, the better all the inhabitants of the underwater world feel. Holes are made every few meters. And so that it does not freeze and the air passes unhindered, reeds are used. The stems of reeds, cattails, reeds prevent freezing of water and serve as a kind of gas exchangers. The oxygen regime during such events improves in the reservoir by an average of 10-15%
The most important advantage of these measures is that methane and hydrogen sulfide gases are removed from the reservoir through the wells, which are formed as a result of decomposition at the bottom of organic matter.
Lack of oxygen can appear in any body of water, but the biggest risks are in small lakes and ponds. Kaban Lake was not chosen by chance, a few years ago a pestilence of fish was recorded here, and now every year environmentalists hold an action to save underwater inhabitants. To catch both big and small fish, more than 50 holes were drilled on the Upper Kaban today. Such campaigns are planned on other reservoirs as well. We invite all Tatarstan citizens to take part!
