We invite residents of our Republic to take part in the open voting of the international competition "European Tree of the Year - 2022"
From Russia, the famous Turgenev oak of the Spasskoye – Lutovinovo estate of the Oryol region will be presented at this competition. It was this nominee who became the winner of the national competition "Russian Tree of the Year - 2021". Turgenev oak was chosen by open voting from 47 applicants.
"Turgenev Oak" is a witness of vivid historical events, a symbol of literary Russia and is closely associated with the name of Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev. According to legend, the writer himself planted the tree when he was 13-15 years old. Unfortunately, the tree died during a hurricane on November 30, 2021, however, the organizers of the international contest "European Tree of the Year" decided to include the oak in the list of nominees from Russia.
Voting is taking place on the official website of the contest https://www.treeoftheyear.org /. To date, "Turgenev oak" takes the second place, lagging behind the applicant from Poland.
