Today, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Alexander Shadrikov met with the head of the Federal Infrastructure of Duracell Russia, OOO Alexander Pesterev at the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan. Let us recall, that the company is implementing a pilot project in Tatarstan to create a comprehensive battery collection infrastructure within the framework of an agreement signed in 2019 with the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan. The goal is to make Tatarstan an example region in terms of handling battery waste in the housing and communal services system, schools and retail stores, and to increase the environmental literacy of the population through the popularization of an ecological lifestyle.
"The support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Tatarstan since the start of the project has allowed to build the basis of an integrated infrastructure in the shortest possible time. So, to date, schools in Tatarstan are equipped with litter boxes and special bags for collecting used batteries. Since 2019, in total, students have collected more than 78 tons of spent batteries," the company's representatives noted. In addition, the partners have created 88 collection points in retail chains, more than 330 containers in multi-apartment residential buildings, and this number is planned to increase, the speaker added.
In turn, Alexander Shadrikov thanked Duracell Russia, OOO for the fruitful joint work, wishing further success in achieving the goals set. "The formation of an integrated battery collection system contributes to the creation of a modern infrastructure, ensures safe waste management, and also increases the share of recycled production and consumption waste. You are doing great work in the environmental direction. The collection of secondary raw materials contributes to the environmental education of not only schoolchildren, but also their parents," the minister said.
Following the meeting, the parties outlined steps for the further development of the project until 2023.
