Water samples were taken from Lake Kaban in Kazan. Experts of the Central Specialized Inspectorate of Analytical Monitoring will test water samples according to 16 criteria. The content of the following substances will be checked: sulfates, nitrites, nitrates, formaldehydes, oil products, manganese, iron, chrome, etc. Results will be known within 5-7 days. Ecologists estimate the damage caused to the nature. According to experts, the fauna is recovered; fish wholesale deaths are not recorded. The Investigation Committee is conducting an inquiry about the reasons of the incident and those who are responsible for it. The Kazan Synthetic Rubber Plant is under suspicion. As Ramil Nizamov, the Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources, has commented in his interview to journalists, the plant has no permit for pollutants or rainwater discharge into Lake Kaban. According to him, the incident could have been caused by flooding or ground waters accumulation.
