Results of the “Cleanliness Lesson” Republican Campaign

On January 16, 2013, the republican ecological and educational campaign “Cleanliness Lesson” dated for the Year of Environment-oriented Culture and Nature Protection in the Republic of Tatarstan was held in educational institutions of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The campaign was organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan in cooperation with administrations of municipal areas and city districts of the Republic of Tatarstan.
“Cleanliness Lesson” was devoted not only to environment protection issues and improvement of a sanitary and environmental situation in the republic, but also to formation of younger generation’s understanding of deeper meaning of the word “cleanliness”. It means not only cleanliness of streets, yards, and riser blocks of flats. First of all, it means spiritual wealth of an individual brought up on the basis of the best historical and cultural traditions and capable of preservation of his/her motherland nature. Reserve management and studies in the Republic of Tatarstan became the central topic of the campaign.
All in all, “Cleanliness Lessons” were given by engaged participants and teachers in more than 1,000 educational institutions and establishments of initial and intermediate vocational education of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Pupils of the 1st to 11th forms participated in the “Cleanliness Lesson” in the Bugulma municipal district of the South-East Territorial Department. Spread of environmental knowledge and fostering of younger generation’s responsible attitude to natural resources and environment were the main tasks of the “Cleanliness Lesson”. The drawing contests “Cleanliness is a Guarantee of Health”, “Put in a Word for Cleanliness”, “Through the Pages of the Red Book”, the quiz “Interesting Facts of the Nature World”, the game-travel “Earth is Our Common Home”, “Secrets of the Green Planet”, and numerous projects took place at junior school. Exhibitions of hand-made crafts of waste material “Household Waste and Imagination” and “Second Youth”, and numerous book fairs were organized. Seniors had discussions on the topics “The Nature Needs a Life Saver”, “Environmental Pollution Problems. How I see them”, “The Human Being and the Nature”, “The Red Book of the Republic of Tatarstan”.Business games “Environmental Problems of Tatarstan”, lessons-conferences “Nature Reserves and Especially Protected Territories of the Republic of Tatarstan”, the round table “Ecology: Worries and Hopes”, “A Dump by the Name of the Earth”, presentations of the projects “Our City is Our Home”, “There Is No Waste, There are Just Unused Materials”, “Let's Save Our Earth” were held. School teachers gave lectures “Environmental Problems of Our Region”.All the events of the ecological campaign were carried out both in the Russian and in the Tatar languages. In total 9,890 school students took part in the campaign in the Bugulma district.
Specialists of the Trans-Kama, Trans-Volga, and Northern territorial departments also gave absorbing “Cleanliness Lessons” in educational institutions.
Experts of the Trans-Kama Territorial Department visited schools of Nizhnekamsk, Zainsk, and Sarmanovo municipal districts together with teachers of the Children’s Environmental and Biological Center. For the purposes of evolvement of ecological awareness, development of ecological culture, and fostering of responsible attitude to natural resources and our environment, the pupils were familiarized with the activity of Volzhsko-Kamsky State Natural Biosphere Reserve, and Nizhnyaya Kama National Park. Head of the Trans-Kama Territorial Department under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Rafis Zaynullin gave the “Cleanliness Lessonto the pupils of the 5th form of Municipal Secondary School No. 14.
Lessons in Trans-Volga region were held in the form of an engaging conversation. Pupils presented reports on environment-related topics. Pupils watched special purpose movies, slides, photographic material and shared their experience.
Experts of the Cis-Kama Territorial Department visited 25 educational establishments. All in all, 1250 pupils took part in the “Cleanliness Lesson”.
Fellow workers of the Northern Territorial Department participated in the “Cleanliness Lesson” at 13 regional schools. Various classes were held at educational establishments including lectures with film viewing, preparation and holding of quizzes, arrangement of exhibitions, engagement of senior pupils in holding of events for junior pupils, as well as elaboration of presentations. The organizers used every known method of giving an interesting lesson. Teachers of biology, chemistry, geography and many other subjects were also engaged along with librarians and teachers at after-school centers.
Fellow workers of the Central Territorial Department visited 19 schools, where lots of contests and quizzes were conducted along with lectures. As it turned out, there are pupils who dream of becoming an “environmental specialist”.
All in all, 22 pupils participated in the “Cleanliness Lesson”, conducted by Priiksky Territorial Department headed by Khalil Mustakimov. Pupils listened to the lectures with great interest, and participated in contests, organized by experts of the territorial department turning out to be the most curious pupils of all. Where can we find young plants? Can we gather flowers in the natural reserve? Does cedar grow in our region? and many other questions were brought up by the younger generation.
Experts of the territorial departments presented campaign participants with souvenirs, including the Red Book of the Republic of Tatarstan, a magazine “Ecology of Tatarstan”, and a poster “Let’s save the planet”. Active participants of the events were awarded with diplomas.
About 800 copies of scientific and educational materials issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, such as “The Red Book of the Republic of Tatarstan”, “The Register of specially protected areas of the Republic of Tatarstan”, “Kuybyshev Reservoir: ecological aspects of water management”, a magazine “Ecology of Tatarstan” and many other materials were presented to the libraries of 200 educational establishments.
In 2013, it is planned to give quarterly environment-oriented lessons on various topics regarding air protection, protection of water and land resources, flora and fauna protection at pre-school educational establishments, schools, as well as at establishments of initial and intermediate vocational education.
