“Let’s leave the fir-tree in the forest!”

18 December 2012, Tuesday
One of the most long-awaited and favorite holidays of adults and children – the New Year – is about to come. A beautiful fir-tree is the main attribute of the holiday.
On December 18, a municipal contest of the projects “Let’s leave the fir-tree in the forest” was held in the Children’s Ecological and Biological Center in Naberezhnye Chelny with the assistance of Cis-Kama Territorial Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan.
A fir-tree is indisputably a wonderful decorationof the New Year’s Day. But its life is definitely very short. Tens of thousandsof coniferous speciesfir-trees and pines are cut down on the New Year’s Eveonly to be found in a couple of weeks in the dumpster or on the scrapheap.
It takes about 10 yearsto grow a 1.5-2-meter high fir-tree or pine.
Is there an alternative to the live fir-tree? Of course, there are several options.
The contest “Let’s leave the fir-tree in the forest” has demonstrated how one can make the main decoration of the New Year’s Day from recycled material. We can easily turn scraps of fabric, paper, threads, fuzz, beads, bedazzlers, trumpery and plastic substitutesinto the New Year’s beauty.
Moreover, recommendations on how to use fir bunches and compositions to decorate the house and how to grow Banzai trees on the windowsill were also given.
Eighteen interesting and original projects took part in the contest. The jury, including Rosa Tamimdarovahead of the administration and planning department ofthe Municipal Educational Establishment of Further Education of Children “The Center of Extracurricular Activities” of Elabuga Municipal District, andAsiya Akhtyamova director ofthe Municipal Educational Establishment of Further Education of Children “Children’s Ecological and Biological Center”, unveiled the winners and awarded them with diplomas for the best project of the contest“Let’s leave the fir-tree in the forest”.
