Stabilization of the bank of Kazanka river on the territory of the State Wildlife Sanctuary “Golubye Lakes”

At present, the state company “State Public Institution “Glavinveststroy RT” is implementing the project “Stabilization of the bank of Kazanka river on the territory of the State Wildlife Sanctuary “Golubye Lakes” with the assistance of the construction organization “Restavratsiya” CJSC in the framework of the republican program of nature protection measures for 2012. The operating area is located in the Aviastroitelny district of Kazan City. The project is to be completed by January 2013.
The necessity to conduct works is determined by constant intensive caving of the right bank of Kazanka river by 0.5-0.6 m per year, which can lead to complete destruction and considerable lowering of the water level in Goluboe lake.
When the area was inspected in 2011 by the representatives of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, it became evident that channels should be cleaned from rubbish and fallen wood, and bank protection works should be conducted.
Design documentation, elaborated by “Spetsgidrostroy” CJSC, considering suggestions made by the commission, was properly coordinated with the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan and received positive state expert reviews and state ecological reviews.
Subject to the applicable legislation, statutory requirements regarding public information, conduct of public hearings, publication of the information on referral of the materials to the state ecological expertise were observed.
In accordance with the results of the state ecological expertise, it was decided to stabilize the river bank using vertical wall from larch piles and enrockment. Use of natural materials such as larch, sand and small rock will allow to preserve natural landscape.
Bank stabilization including installation of the retaining wall and maintenance works will avert bank caving, soil loss and erosion processes allowing to preserve such unique natural facility as Goluboe lake.
Considering the prevailing weather conditions and complex geological conditions resulting from cleaning of the channel from rubbish and fallen wood, sub-soil was displaced while the machinery was operating. At present, the machinery was retrieved, and the works on cleaning and bank stabilization were resumed. Work progress is constantly monitored.
We would also like to inform you that the fact of green planting felling was revealed on the territory adjacent to the area of bank stabilization works, whereby the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan initiated administrative investigation.
