The opening of II International Conference “Lakes of Eurasia: Problems and Solutions” took place today in Kazan. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Aleksandr Shadrikov, greeted the guests of the capital on behalf of the Government of the Republic: “Tatarstan is often called the “land of four rivers”, meaning Volga, Kama, Vyatka and Belaya. In total, more than 4 thousand rivers flow within our republic, but very few people know that there are even more lakes - about 8.5 thousand. They are widely used for water supply of settlements, fishing, as well as for recreation”.
The Head of the department expressed confidence that the conference would be fruitful and useful, and its outcome will be the development of important practical recommendations for improving the system of environmental monitoring and the development of a network of hydrological observations on water bodies, water quality assessment.
II International Conference in Kazan will last until May 23.
