Campaign “The grackles have come …”

On April 11, the press conference devoted to the beginning of the campaign “The grackles have come” will take place in the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. The campaign is held with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and “Maxidom” company.
Ornithologists report that birds leave cities as they simply have no place to live there. There is stone and iron everywhere, old trees in parks where birds can build their nests are being cut down in accordance with safety regulations. Once do birds leave, there will be nobody to protect trees from insects. In order to draw attention to the problem, it has been decided to hold a contest on nesting boxes and bird houses construction among pupils of Kazan City as well as to organize a city holiday “The grackles have come”.
The contest is to start on April 12 in Kazan. Any pupil or a group of pupils can take part in it. The main participation condition envisages presentation of a hand-made nesting box or a bird house after filing an application on a project website www.maxikonkurs.ru before April 20, 2012.
The main aim of the indicated contest lies in development of the culture of solicitous attitude and care for environment in the younger generation. The tasks are as follows:
-enhancement of skills in making things with your own hands;
-fostering responsibility towards environment;
-participants’ awareness of the possibility to make a personal contribution into solution of the global environmental problems;

All the pieces of work presented by pupils, regardless of the district of their residence, will take part in the contest according to the standard procedure. The winners will be decided by the Panel following the results of the contest. Selection criteria include freshness of ideas and habitability of the piece of work. Winners as well as the first and second runners-up will be awarded with prizes.
The results of the campaign “The grackles have come” will be summarized on April 22, 2012 at the Central Park of Culture and Rest named after Maxim Gorky. All the habitable pieces of work will be placed in the park.
