On March 20, Earth Day is celebrated all over the world. The founder of this holiday is John Morton, the American public figure. In the 1840s, he launched a campaign to plant trees and shrubs in the framework of the program of careful attitude of every citizen of the country to the environment. In 1872, he proposed to establish a day, which will be devoted to landscape gardening. So a Day of Tree was launched, which immediately became very popular. Starting from 1970, the sense of the holiday expanded to a general idea of environmental protection, and it got a new name - Earth Day, which became a national one. In 1971, in the Day of Vernal Equinox, the United Nations formally adopted this holiday. Subsequently, it became world-wide, with each year receiving ever wider international support.
