Alexander Shadrikov: “Tatarstan is ready to implement the project of VolgaRiverrestoration. We have positive experience already"

Construction and modernization of treatment facilities, prevention of diffuse sewage transfer in the Volga River andforest planting on riversides. These and other projects will be implemented in the near future in Tatarstan with the aim ofrestorationthe main river of the country. The implementation of measures aimed at preserving and preventing pollution of the Volga River was discussed today in Kazan. A round table was held within the framework of offsite meeting of Federal Assembly State Duma Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Russian Federation.

It is expected that by 2025 the volume of discharged contaminated sewage should decrease by no less than 63.7%.

Tatarstan ranks first among the regions of the Volga Federal District for the total area of ​​lakes and water basins. There are more than 36,000 water bodiesin the republic, 6.4% of the entire territory is covered with water. Water resources play an important role in ensuring activities of all branches of economy, and this is especially important for the republic as a dynamically developing region, "said Alexander Shadrikov, Head of Tatarstan Ministry of Ecology.
