The term “environmental information” will be introduced into Russian legislation, according to the official website of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation. This issue was considered at the IV meeting of the Working Group of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia on the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention). The event was held in the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia under the leadership of the Director of the International Cooperation Department Nuritdin Inamov.
The draft federal law "On Amendments to the Federal Law "On Environmental Protection" (regarding the definition of the concept of environmental information and the procedure for accessing such information) has been prepared as part of the work to improve Russian legislation with a view to bringing it into line with the provisions of the Aarhus Convention. Introduction of the concept of “environmental information” is fundamental for further steps to synchronize national legislation with the provisions of the Aarhus Convention.
The members of the Working Group discussed further steps to implement a comprehensive approach to the improvement of environmental legislation on a systematic basis.
