11 September 2017, Monday

Today, trees were planted in Altai. The President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, members of the delegation, which included the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic, Farid Abdulganiev, planted young cedars on the territory of the memorable sign “Altai – the heart of Eurasia”. The memorial sign was made in Tatarstan and transferred to the Republic of Altai as a gift in 2006 in honour of the 250th anniversary of the voluntary joining of the Altai people into Russia. The authors of the project were masters of the Republic of Tatarstan. The sign is installed on the administrative border of the Republic of Altai on the bank of the Katun River. It is made as an open hemisphere with symbolic elements. Today this place has become one of the tourist attractions of the region.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted the natural and historical wealth of the Altai Republic, calling it the unique region of Russia.
Within the framework of the working visit, the issues of cooperation between the two regions, Altai and Tatarstan, were discussed. According to Rustam Minnikhanov, one of the important areas of collaboration is cooperation in the snow leopard preservation. He said that in Tatarstan it is planned to create a nursery for the breeding of rare species of felines. “In 2018, we start building a nursery. But now we need a uterine stock. Then these leopards should be moved to somewhere, and the Altai Territory is ideal for this. I believe that the preservation of the snow leopards population is a very noble deed,” added the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
