Let fish be!

The regulation of the water level in the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk reservoirs ensured favourable spawning. In 2017 specialists of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan carried out work on the development of aquatic biological resources and water management activities in the Republic of Tatarstan. Farid Abdulganiev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic, said: “During the spring flood (April-June), we took comprehensive measures to ensure favourable levels of the Kuibyshev and Nizhnekamsk water reservoirs for spawning commercial fish species and the accumulation of water resources in the reservoirs for the coming summer period.” Today, the water level is 53.3 m, the Minister said. In the 3rd decade of May and the beginning of June, the main commercial species of fish (bream, silver bream, carp, crucian carp, blue bream, roach, etc., spawned in a short time (not more than 7-10 days). At the same time, according to experts, due to cold weather and, correspondingly, low water temperatures (no more than 11 °C), resorbtion did not occurred. According to the research assistant of the Tatar branch of the FSBSI “GOSNIORH” Mikhail Gorshkov, current water level is very favourable for the development of juveniles of the ichthyofauna. Preliminarily, the breeding efficiency in 2017 is evaluated as favourable. Now the maximum smooth fluctuations in the water level are ensured, thus avoiding the loss of fish.
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan represents the interests of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Interdepartmental Working Group on regulating the operating modes of the Reservoirs of the Volga-Kama cascade of the Federal water resources agency.
