Development of mining legislation in Russia to be discussed in Petersburg

On May 18, within the framework of the VII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, a round table “Law on Subsoil – 25 Years of Development: Results and Prospects” will be held. The event was organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation in conjunction with the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use. The round table is timed to the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Law of the Russian Federation “On Subsoil”. This document is the main normative legal act regulating relations in the field of geological study, use and conservation of mineral resources, exploration and extraction of minerals and specific mineral resources, use of mining waste, and associated processing industries.

The discussion will be attended by the heads of regulatory bodies in the field of subsoil use, leading scientists and experts, managers of mining companies. During the round table, the participants will discuss the history of the development of the mining legislation of the Russian Federation, the results of changes in recent years, as well as the directions for its further improvement in order to ensure effective state management in the sphere of subsoil use. The “round table” will be an open platform for the building of proposals on the prospective areas of development of legislation on subsoil, which will be submitted to the executive and legislative authorities of the Russian Federation.
