Today, the Republican Youth Library hosted a training workshop on environmental education for employees of the republican and municipal libraries of Tatarstan. The event was conducted by Elena Gilmizyanova, the leading specialist of the department of environmental education and interaction with public organizations of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. The theme of the seminar “Role of Libraries in Ecological Education of Youth” was chosen not accidentally. April 15 is the Day of Environmental Knowledge. “Young people are a category of readers whose environmental education is of a special importance. After all, it is them we are expectingtosolve environmental issuesin the very near future. Formation of ecological culture and ecological awareness of youth through systematic educational activities are important, and at the same time, global goals. We must give proper respect to the libraries: they are active participants in the environmental education process and are doing everything to understand the essence of the global problems of ecology, creating conditions for the social development and development of children, an independent choice of their worldview position. Involvement of young people in specific environmental activities, joint environmental and practical activities is very “demonstrative”, from an educational point of view. To channel the huge energy of young people into the mainstream of solving environmental problems, making them interested in a modern ecological direction, we can only do by non-traditional methods, original ideas, innovative technologies”, – Elena Gilmizyanova noted. She talked about unusual methodological approaches to attracting young people to environmental issues, shared her experience working with children and adults. Librarians from all over Tatarstan exchanged ideas and developments of an environmental orientation and outlined a work plan for the Year of Ecology and Public Spaces in the Republic of Tatarstan.
