A meeting-concert devoted to the National Unity Day was held today in Kazan at the Kremlin Quay near the square garden of the Palace of farmers. Fellow workers of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as the citizens and guests of Kazan, representatives of public movements, workforce associations and others took active part in the event. It was initiated by public youth organizations "Association 'Otechestvo'" of the Republic of Tatarstan and the "Center for the development of voluntary work in the Republic of Tatarstan". Organizers of the meeting acknowledged that the national unity is the most important backbone of a multi-national country, which is especially important considering today's challenges and hazards.
The National Unity Day, the state holiday of the Russian Federation, is celebrated on November 4th. This historical date hearkens back to to the events of the beginning of the XVII century, when the people's volunteer corps under the auspices of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and the head of the craftsmen Kozma Minin, formed in Nizhny Novgorod, ousted the troops of the enemy from Moscow after heavy fighting.
