No flood-related emergency situations are forecasted for this year

The briefing on "Flood at water reservoirs of the Republic of Tatarstan" was held at Tatmedia. The Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Timur Akchurin, and Deputy Minister for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, Nikolay Surzhko, participated in it. Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan informed the journalists on the fact that any natural process that can cause an emergency situation should be pre-monitored. Forecast on flood passage was compiled. It was estimated that it will pass in two stages, as it usually does: the first stage - at the end of April - beginning of May, and the second stage - from mid May. According to the Federal Water Resources Agency, this year's flood was very intensive, and two its stages were united into one peaking on April 23 rd in the Volga-Kama Cascade, in general, on April 25 th in the Kuybyshev water reservoir, and on April 18 th in the Nizhnekamsk water reservoir. A sharp increase in Kama area of the Kuybyshev water reservoir is caused by high effluence from the Vyatka. In order to prevent underflooding, great water coming into water reservoirs of the Republic should be discharged into the Hydro-Power Plant. This would allow to ensure safe level of flood in Tatarstan. All today's data and characteristics indicate that no emergency situations are forecasted for this year. According to the information of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, the peak of high water on small rivers of the Republic has ended. At present, flood recession is observed in the Upper Volga and the Kama River. Spring high water is observed only in the Vyatka River, althouth no exceedance of high-risk marks is expected. Considering stabilization of the situation in the lower part of the Kuybyshev water reservoir and decrease in escapages over the last day (a total of 2,000 m3 /s) from the direction of the Kama and the Upper Volga, we should expect stabilization of the situation in the lower pool of the Nizhnekamsk hydropower installation. As for Kazan, it is protected with the system for engineering protection of the city: if the water level in the Kuybyshev water reservoir reaches 55 according to the Baltic system of heights, underflooding will be restrained by engineering protection of the city, and if it exceeds 54.72 according to the Baltic system of heights, the work of the Volga well field will be limited. Territories of the city located beyond 55 according to the Baltic system of heights, are deemed the areas of flooding, but the territories of Novo-Savinsky district and the central part of the city were developed after the engineering city protection facilities had been put into operation, so they are safe.
