The ecological holiday “World Water Day” will be held in Kazan on March 22nd at the Youth Center “Ak Bars”.The event will be held in the form of a presentation of achievements of underwater researchers of Tatarstan. During the first part of the event, the photo-exhibition of the underwater team of the Russian Geographical Society named after Alexey Leonov will be opened. The members of the team will present photos from expeditions when they set the world records – “The pole of Cold”, “Antarctic-100”, “The Subarctic of Russia”, and “The Arctic Circle”. The second part will include demonstration of underwater researches: underwater work, work with Russiansubmarine breathing equipment. The members of the research team will share the experience of scientific work in the most extreme places of our planet. First Deputy Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustem Kamalov, and Chairperson of the Regional Department of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Tatarstan, Dmitry Shiller, will participate in the event.
The idea of holding the World Water Day was announced for the first time during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992.The UN General Assembly announced March 22nd the World Water Day after adopting the Resolution 47/193 on February 22, 1993. The holiday has been celebrated since 1993.
