The Republican Open Olympiad of young geologists is held in Kazan

The Republican Field Olympiad of young geologists was opened today in Kazan at the children’s recreation camp “Zarechye”.ThePrimeMinisteroftheRepublicofTatarstanIldarKhalikov, DeputyPrimeMinister–the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan Engel Fattakhov, the Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan Artem Sidorov took part in the solemn ceremony.
All in all, 26 teams from the Republic of Tatarstan and a team from the Republic of Crimea (Bakhchisaray district) are to participate in the Republican Olympiad that will be held until July 10, 2014. The event is held in order to find and support talented children, as well as to help them find their professional way, to advocate the best traditions of geological science.The Olympiad touches upon the issues regarding practical application of the knowledge of pupils on paleontology, petrography, mineralogy, crystallography, geochemistry, ecogeology, structural geology, historical geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, geology of mineral resources and other geology-oriented sciences.
ThefollowingcontestswillbeheldintheframeworkoftheOlympiad: “Geological route”; “Geological section”; “Paleontology”; “Mineralogy and petrography”; “Hydrology”; “Radiometry”; “Heavy mineral concentrate sampling”;“Basic safety rules”; “Camping site arrangement”; “Geological report”;“Description of geological monument”.Moreover, suchexhibitionsas“Geology and us”; “Photography”; “Drawing”; “Stone craft”;“Foundations of oil geology”will be held in the framework of the Olympiad.
Following the results of the Olympiad, the national team of the Republic of Tatarstan will be formed to participate in the III Kazakhstan Open Field Olympiad of young geologists that will be held from July 31 until August 11, 2014 in Almaty on the premises of the international Children’s center“AK-Erek”.
