How to behave in the forest and avoid getting lost: ecologists held a briefing for participants of the “Molodaya Gvardiya” camp

4 August 2026, Tuesday

Inspectors from the Prikamsk Department of the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan visited the “Molodaya Gvardiya” children’s tent camp in Mamadysh District and held a session for the children on safe behaviour in nature. This season, the camp brought together 90 young explorers aged 8 to 18.

The ecologists told the children what to take on a hike: drinking water, a charged phone, a compass or GPS navigator, a whistle, and a first‑aid kit. They also discussed clothing choices — it should be bright so that rescuers can more easily spot a person among the trees, and it should cover the arms and legs to protect against ticks, branches, and nettles. Footwear should be closed, comfortable, and well‑worn — this helps prevent ankle injuries.

If a person gets lost in the forest, the main thing is not to panic or rush around aimlessly. Instead, they should stop, try to get their bearings using natural landmarks, and, if necessary, stay in place until help arrives.

Another important topic was campfires. An unextinguished fire is especially dangerous in summer and can cause serious harm to the local flora and fauna. The inspectors also reminded the children about waste: they should take all rubbish with them and not leave it in the forest.

Among the camp participants were volunteers of the all‑Russian “Water of Russia” campaign, who help clean up the coastal areas of water bodies in Tatarstan. The inspectors presented prizes to the most active children at the session and also acknowledged the volunteers — as a sign of appreciation for their work within the campaign.
