Today, at a Saturday meeting at the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan, Tatarstan Minister of Ecology Azat Ziganshin spoke about the upcoming sanitary and ecological two-month period, which is taking place in the republic in support of the national project "Environmental well-being".
Traditionally, on behalf of the Raisa of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, the two-month period starts on April 1. During the two-month period, all environmental protection agencies and municipal districts switch to an enhanced mode of operation. The main areas of activity include the elimination of unauthorized landfills, the improvement of public spaces and the prevention of environmental violations.
"Two months is our joint large—scale and intense work. The main task is to put the republic in order by May 9, paying attention to memorial complexes and monuments, which is especially important in the Year of Military and Labor Valor in Tatarstan," said Azat Ziganshin.
Last year, as part of a two-month review, 3,890 violations were detected by the supervisory authorities, including 1,362 unauthorized landfills. Administrative measures totaling 6.4 million rubles were applied to the violators. 350 thousand residents took part in the clean-up, 8.5 thousand pieces of equipment were reserved, and about 340 thousand cubic meters of waste were taken to landfills.
Tatarstan is active not only in eliminating landfills, but also in identifying unauthorized waste disposal sites. The Republican Public Environmental Reception received more than 500 applications in the first three months of 2026 alone.
Addressing local governments, the head of the Ministry of Ecology noted that the primary task is to prevent the formation of new unauthorized landfills. They mostly appear on municipal lands.
Helicopter flights and commission detours along railway lanes are traditionally planned during the two-month period.
The Minister of Ecology drew attention in his report to the fact that the two-month period traditionally coincides with the beginning of the flood season. This year, due to the large amount of seasonal precipitation, this issue is particularly acute. "The spring flood is becoming a powerful channel for the transfer of pollutants. The water washes away everything that has accumulated over the winter from coastal areas and fields, from household garbage to livestock waste and fertilizers. All this diffuse flow gets into our rivers and reservoirs. I ask municipalities and agricultural enterprises to pay special attention to this issue. Timely prevention of pollution is much more effective than elimination of consequences. The cleanliness of our water bodies is in the area of our common responsibility," emphasized Azat Ziganshin.
In support of the two-month event, the traditional Ecovesna competition will start on April 1 in the format of an 8-week marathon, which this year is dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and the Year of Military and Labor Valor. Last year, 1,100 families contributed to the preservation of the purity of their native land as part of the competition.
An important event this spring will also be the Ecological Congress "Water of Russia", which will be held on April 16-17 in Naberezhnye Chelny.
"The federal-level event will bring together an expanded meeting on water use with the participation of Maxim Vladimirovich Korolkov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia, and launch the All-Russian campaign "Water of Russia" for all 89 regions of the country," the Minister of Ecology said.
Recall that Tatarstan has been the leader of this campaign for the fifth year in a row — in 2025, more than 410 thousand people participated in cleaning the banks of the republic's rivers.
The culmination of the two-month period will be the Central Clean-up Day, scheduled for April 25. The venue will be determined taking into account the opinion of the residents of the republic.
