The project of the Ministry of Ecology on the revival of the Red Book Saker falcon was presented to the participants of the intensive course "Reserved Tatarstan"

13 March 2026, Friday

A panel session dedicated to the development of specially protected natural areas was held as part of the educational intensive "Reserved Tatarstan", which is held in support of the national projects "Youth and Children" and "Environmental well-being". The key topic of discussion was the republic's experience in restoring the population of the Saker falcon, one of the rarest endangered birds of prey.

Veronika Isaeva, a specialist from the Department of Land Resources Protection of the Ministry of Ecology, made a detailed report on the implementation of the environmental initiative. She introduced the students to the main stages of the project, the applied scientific methods and plans for the future. Special attention was paid in the presentation to the interaction of the Ministry's specialists, ornithologists and volunteers - it is this partnership that underlies the successful work on the return of birds to the wild.

The project, implemented with the support of SIBUR, is showing good results. In 2025 alone, eight Saker falcon chicks were released into their natural habitat. Two of them were born in the enclosures of the Kazan Zoo Botanical Garden, six more were delivered from a specialized nursery in the Moscow region. In total, over the three years of the program's implementation, 24 young falcons have seen the skies of Tatarstan, successfully adapted to independent living under the supervision of ornithologists.

The high level of initiative has already been recognized at the federal level: the project became the winner of the All-Russian competition "Reliable Partner Ecology" and the finalist of the National Award "Crystal Compass".

The panel session became not only a place for summarizing interim results, but also a platform for discussing further steps to preserve biodiversity. The event was held within the framework of the large-scale project "Reserved Tatarstan", which is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund. The organizers are the Regional Youth Environmental Organization "It will be clean" together with the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Volga-Kama State Natural Biosphere Reserve", the State Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan for Biological Resources with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan. Until October 2026, the project participants will attend conservation personnel schools, environmental landings and job fairs aimed at involving young people in environmental activities.
