Joint projects of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan demonstrate high performance in the field of environmental safety of Tatarstan

21 January 2026, Wednesday

At the joint board of the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Tatarstan, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan Rifkat Minnikhanov made a report on scientific support in solving environmental safety problems.

He noted that as part of the joint work with the Ministry of Ecology, a systematic analysis of the results of state monitoring of water bodies was carried out, which showed a stable condition of the republic's reservoirs.

It should be recalled that since 2022, with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, a comprehensive project "Improving the ecological condition of rivers and reservoirs of the Republic of Tatarstan" has been implemented. It was developed by the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan together with specialists from Kazan Federal University, the Institute of Ecology and Subsoil Use of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

As part of this scientific work, since 2023, with the support of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, work has begun on clearing the Kazanka riverbed as part of the Free Current project. During the three years of the project, 76 tree blocks were dismantled, 900 bags of garbage were collected, and 900 km of the river were cleared.

A logical continuation of the initiative was a pilot project for the reconstruction of forest plantations along the Kazanka River. The activities in support of the national project "Ecological well-being" are aimed at creating protective water protection forest strips along the river banks, which, according to scientific research, is one of the most effective methods of combating diffuse pollution of water bodies - unregulated runoff coming from agricultural fields, livestock farms and industrial sites. As part of the pilot project, 8,000 oak and spruce saplings were planted in the Arsky district. This year, the Ministry of Ecology, together with the Ministry of Forestry and with the support of SIBUR, plans to reconstruct forest plantations on an area of 15 hectares in the territory of the Kargalinsky rural settlement of the Chistopolsky district.

Rifkat Minnikhanov also noted that in order to improve environmental safety in Tatarstan, the system of calculated monitoring of the state of atmospheric air continues:

"The experience of the Republic of Tatarstan has now become widespread throughout the Russian Federation. In our opinion, to further improve the efficiency of using this tool, it is important to establish standards for permissible emissions from stationary sources based on consolidated calculations, as well as to ensure that so-called salvo emissions are taken into account in the inventory of emissions into atmospheric air."

Currently, the unified information system of the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan receives information in real time from 31 automatic air pollution control stations (APCS), 14 of which belong to the largest environmental enterprises: PJSC Kazanorgsintez, PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim, JSC TAIF-NK, JSC TANECO, PJSC Tatneft. In 2025, APCS conducted about 4 million measurements of atmospheric air parameters. At the end of the report, Rifkat Minnikhanov set goals for 2026, including continuing joint work with the Ministry of Ecology on research of water bodies and analysis of the mineral resource base of Tatarstan.
