In 2025, the Republic of Tatarstan switched to the implementation of a new national project "Environmental well-being", which replaced the national project "Ecology". The Republic participates in three federal projects – "Russian Water", "Forest Conservation" and "Closed-loop Economy". Financing in the amount of 2.9 billion rubles has been agreed from the republic for the implementation of 10 measures in the coming years, of which 2.7 billion are from the federal budget, and 200 million from the regional budget.
The Russian Water project is assigned to the Ministry of Ecology. The focus is on comprehensive measures to improve the health of water bodies and eliminate accumulated damage.
Federal project "Water of Russia": health of rivers and reservoirs
Within the framework of the federal project "Water of Russia", supervised by the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, activities are carried out in two key areas.
1. Improving the condition of the hydrographic network. Three major riverbed clearing activities are planned:
2. Elimination of accumulated harm. In 2026, it is planned to complete one of the most difficult pilot projects in Russia – the reclamation of silt fields of biological treatment facilities in Kazan. The work started in 2021 is now close to completion: the overall readiness of the facility is 93%.
Federal project "General Cleaning": solving the problems of the past years
In parallel, within the framework of the federal project "General Cleaning", two environmentally significant measures are planned to be included in this federal project to eliminate accumulated damage:
"With the support of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Nurgalievich Minnikhanov, from 2018 to 2025, 28 water bodies were rehabilitated, 44 riverbeds were cleared, 79 hydraulic structures were repaired, 12 shore defenses were built, and 23 km of inactive oil pipelines were dismantled. In 2025, within the framework of the republican state program for environmental protection, 1.4 billion rubles were allocated for the implementation of targeted measures. The lion's share of these funds is directed to 47 water management measures," said Minister of Ecology Azat Ziganshin at a joint board meeting of the Ministry of Ecology and the Ministry of Forestry.
