The Republic of Tatarstan has confirmed its status as a leader in environmental volunteerism, taking first place for the fifth time in a row in the All-Russian coastal Cleaning Campaign "Water of Russia". The results of 2025 were summed up by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Last year, 410,423 people took part in clean–up activities on the banks of rivers and lakes - from schoolchildren and students to employees of enterprises and officials. Together, they passed and cleared 11,008 km of coastline, which is the distance from Kazan to Vladivostok and back. More than 12,000 cubic meters of garbage were collected and disposed of for recycling.
"This victory is the merit of every citizen of the republic who went out on a clean–up day and did not remain indifferent.…The environmental agenda in Tatarstan has ceased to be the domain of specialists, it has become a common cause," said Tatarstan Minister of Ecology Azat Ziganshin.
The "Water of Russia" campaign is part of the federal project "Water of Russia" of the national project "Environmental well-being".
In addition to the volunteer clean-up, large-scale work is underway in the republic to clear riverbeds. In 2025, the second stage of clearing the Shallow waters in Naberezhnye Chelny began, with work on the Naberezhnye Chelny and Noksa Rivers in the future. Over the past 8 years, 28 reservoirs have been rehabilitated in the republic and 44 riverbeds have been cleared.
Since 2019, about 2 million people have participated in the "Waters of Russia" campaigns in Tatarstan.
