Defender of the Motherland on guard of nature: SMO hero teaches children to protect the nature of Tatarstan

2 October 2025, Thursday

Igor Egorov, hero of the special military operation, conducted an environmental lesson for students of Almetyevsk Engineering School No. 26. Participant of the "Batyrlar. Heroes of Tatarstan" program turned a school class into a real expedition to the protected corners of the republic.

Igor Egorov, who recently returned from the front line, changed his military uniform to an ecologist's tunic and now works in the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan, but the mission remains the same — to protect what is dear. This time it's the natural resources of the native Republic.

"Protecting the Motherland and protecting nature are inextricably linked. Each of us is able to contribute to the preservation of the ecology of our native land, because caring for the environment is an integral part of loving our native land," said Igor Egorov.

At the eco-lesson, a senior specialist from the Southeastern Department told the students about how important it is to take care of the world around them: go out on clean-up days, collect waste paper and sort waste.

The children learned about the unique nature reserves of Russia and Tatarstan. Some of the students shared that they had already been on excursions to the Volga-Kama Natural Biosphere Reserve. The inspector also introduced the children to rare species of animals that live in the republic and are listed in the Red Book of Tatarstan.

Igor Egorov has long been familiar with environmental protection. From 2001 to 2004, he worked in the Southeastern Department of the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan, and later in the Department for the Protection and Use of Wildlife of the Republic of Tatarstan. In 2022, the man went to his military base and recently returned from the front line.

Let us remind you that the eco-lesson was made possible thanks to the "Batyrlar. Heroes of Tatarstan" program, which helps veterans of their military to find a worthy use of their skills and experience. Igor Egorov's mentor in this program is Alexander Shadrikov, Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, who already met with the hero on July 31.
