Water is the source of life! Water Quality Monitoring Day is celebrated all over the world today

18 September 2025, Thursday

Tatarstan pays special attention to water quality control in reservoirs. The Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan annually conducts research on 65 water bodies throughout the Republic. This year alone, more than 15,000 measurements have been collected on 17 indicators, which helps to monitor the condition of our rivers and lakes.

The Flamingo research vessel is used to monitor the Kuibyshev reservoir. This scientific station can conduct a real-time study of the water surface and has a powerful river floating laboratory. In 2022, thanks to the support of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, the vessel was equipped with the necessary modern equipment.

Expeditions to the Flamingo are conducted by specialists from the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, GBU NPO Geocenter of the Republic of Tatarstan and scientists from the Tatar branch of the Scientific Research Center of the Russian Federation VNIRO. During one route, the vessel passes about 360 km, checking the most important sections of the Kuibyshev reservoir.

This year, the new Russian Aquatorium system from the Russian company NAECO was presented at the scientific station. The platform is designed for long-term monitoring of surface water quality. It looks like a solar-powered buoy that automatically measures pH, temperature, and other important water quality indicators, and then sends the data to specialists.

In September, an Aquatorium was installed on the Sredny Kaban Lake in Kazan to promptly collect information about the state of the water body. The system works independently and does not require frequent maintenance.

Modern technologies and constant monitoring help preserve the water resources of our republic, which supports the goals of the federal project "Water of Russia" of the national project "Environmental Well-being".
