Rustam Minnikhanov, the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, is taking part in the International Environmental Conference in the Altai Republic today

Today, the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, is taking part in an international environmental conference in the Altai Republic, the press service of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan reports.

Rustam Nurgalievich is taking part in the conference at the invitation of the Russian Government.

The conference is attended by the Prime Ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. All States are partners and cooperate in environmental issues both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international associations.

Tatarstan actively cooperates with these countries, including in environmental issues. In particular, the topic of biodiversity conservation is being discussed at the conference. For example, the joint efforts of the five countries in restoring the numbers of the snow leopard, which lives only in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The Republic of Tatarstan actively participates in projects for the conservation of the snow leopard. Thus, on behalf of the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan, with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, initiated the creation of a Scientific Center for the Conservation of Biodiversity with a priority species for study - the snow leopard. In 2022, following the visit of Rustam Minnikhanov to the Altai Republic, it was decided to locate the Center's facilities on the territory of Karym in the Maiminsky district of Altai. In 2024, a research building with a laboratory, residential buildings for researchers, an aviary complex, veterinary and utility blocks were erected. Kazan Federal University has prepared projects for conducting research and implementing training programs at the Scientific Center.

As part of the Scientific Program for the Restoration of the Snow leopard, adopted following cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic, three snow leopard specimens were delivered to the Center on October 23, 2024. Following the meeting between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Russia also received a certificate for 4 snow leopard specimens, two of which are planned to be placed in the Center.

In March of this year, Kazan hosted the International Conference "Study and Conservation of the snow Leopard in the world. Joining Forces", which was attended by 180 representatives from 12 countries of the habitat of this rare species.
