The decision to extend the fisheries shelf of the Kuibyshev reservoir

15 May 2025, Thursday

Today, the Federal Agency for Water Resources (Rosvodresursy) held a meeting on the establishment of operating modes of the Lower Volga reservoirs. The discussion was attended by representatives of the Nizhnevolzhsky and Kama basin administrations of Rosvodresursy, the subjects of the Russian Federation — the Republic of Mari El, the Republic of Tatarstan, Ulyanovsk, Samara, Astrakhan regions, as well as representatives of JSC SO UES and PJSC RusHydro. Alexander Shadrikov, Minister of Ecology of the Republic of Tatarstan, took part in the meeting on behalf of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Due to the Rosgidromet's upward adjustment of the forecast of water inflow to the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama Cascade for May, Rosvodresursami decided to extend the regime of fisheries shelf. For this, the discharge costs through the Kuibyshev reservoir hydroelectric plant in the amount of 14,000 cubic meters/s will be saved until May 21.

From May 16, taking into account the expected increase in inflows, the level of the Kuibyshev reservoir will gradually increase. It is predicted that by May 30, the reservoir will fill up to 52.5 m BS, and in June it will reach a normal retaining level.

Additional information, as well as official instructions from Rosvodresursy on the operating modes of the Lower Volga reservoirs for the coming period, will be posted on the Rosvodresursy website.
